My name is Alyssa. I am currently a teacher in Prince George's County Public Schools. In 2016, I was named 93.9 WKY'S Top 30 Under 30 for my work in the community as well as my self-published children’s books. I recently served on a panel for the Congressional Black Caucus speaking to the youth about issues in our community. I started Tutor Me This! about four years ago, and pride myself on the amount of children we have helped. We service the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia). I staff over 20 certified teachers and professors. Last year, we serviced over 40 children and 80% of them, by the end of the year, were reading on or above grade level. In 2016 we partnered with Charles County Department of Social Services and serviced children in Foster care.
A lot of our business spreads by word-of-mouth. Once I get a referral, I meet with the parents or guardians to figure out if the student needs more of an enrichment or remediation type of program. Based on the consultation, I develop a series of activities for the students to engage in while they're working with the tutor. Tutor Me This! provides all of the materials for the tutor which include pencils, pens, erasers, flash cards, playing cards, and the curriculum. Anything that the teacher might need we provide.
Teacher and student are paired based upon the needs of the student, tutoring preferences and the expertise of the teacher. My contractors do not travel more than 30 minutes or so from either their job site or their home. Sessions are only one hour, unless stated otherwise, and are held at a client’s home or a local library. If the teacher accepts the job, they will receive an email from me stating everything that was learned during the consultation.
